FrontDesk connects to Practice Fusion through its certified FHIR API to securely sync your patient directory. The AI receptionist uses this to recognize returning callers by their phone number and greet them by name for a more personal experience on every call.
What this integration does β and doesn't do
- β Reads patient name, phone, date of birth, and email (read-only, one-way).
- β Does not read or write your Practice Fusion appointment calendar β Practice Fusion's API does not expose scheduling. Appointments the AI books live in FrontDesk's own scheduler.
- β Never changes anything in your Practice Fusion account.
Connect Practice Fusion
- Open Settings β Integrations and find the Practice Fusion (EHR) card.
- Click Connect.
- Paste your Practice ID (also called the Practice GUID). It looks like
00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000. - Click Connect to save.
After saving, you may briefly see a "Finishing setup" notice while FrontDesk completes Practice Fusion approval for your practice. Once that's done, syncing starts automatically β you don't need to do anything else.
Before you connect
To authorize FrontDesk, your practice first enables FHIR API access inside Practice Fusion and approves the FrontDesk AI Receptionist app. If you don't see where to do this, contact FrontDesk support and we'll walk you through triggering the authorization and finding your Practice ID.
How syncing works
- The first sync imports your existing patients; after that, FrontDesk re-syncs automatically on a schedule (hourly by default).
- You can force an immediate refresh anytime with Sync now on the Practice Fusion card.
- The status tag shows Connected, Pending first sync, or Needs attention so you always know where things stand.
Disconnecting
Click Disconnect on the Practice Fusion card. Patients already synced are kept in FrontDesk; future syncing stops.
