- What is FrontDesk?FrontDesk is an AI-powered receptionist that answers your phone, books appointments, sends SMS reminders, and follows up with patients — 24/7. It replaces or augments your front-desk staff with a friendly AI voice that speaks naturally, knows your services, and integrates with your calendar. Practices use FrontDesk to stop missing calls after hours, reduce no-shows, and free their team from repetitive scheduling work.2 min
- HIPAA & FrontDesk — overviewFrontDesk is built to be HIPAA-eligible for healthcare practices. Call audio, transcripts, patient records, and AI summaries all live in HIPAA-eligible infrastructure (AWS), encrypted at rest and in transit. We sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with practices on qualifying plans before any real patient data is processed. This article is the overview — see "Sign your BAA" for the how-to.2 min
- Quickstart — your first 30 minutes with FrontDeskAfter signing up, you'll create a practice, pick a phone number, choose your AI's voice and greeting, set business hours, and place a test call. Most teams are live in under 30 minutes.3 min
- Your first test call — what to expectOnce your number is purchased and your voice is picked, the Setup Assistant opens a live test-call panel. Call your FrontDesk number from your cell phone, try booking an appointment or asking a question, and watch the transcript scroll in real time. Most surprises in week one come from greeting wording or business-hours gaps — both fixable in under a minute.2 min
- Forwarding vs. buying a new numberIf you want zero change for your patients, buy a FrontDesk number and conditionally forward your existing line to it (busy / no-answer / always). If you want patients dialing the FrontDesk number directly, port your existing number to FrontDesk so you keep it permanently. Forwarding is fastest to set up; porting is the long-term clean answer. This article helps you pick.3 min
- Why did the AI transfer this call?FrontDesk transfers a call when (1) the caller asks for a human, (2) the AI detects an after-hours condition and your after-hours mode is set to forward, (3) a clinical-rule emergency is detected, or (4) the model hits a hard error. Each trigger has a specific setting that controls it. The Tasks page also flags calls that ended up escalated even if the AI didn't transfer mid-call.2 min
