FrontDesk was built for practices, but a home care agency is not a dental office. When your business type is Home Care or Home Health, the app changes its words, its starter services, its billing codes and its website to fit an agency. This guide collects what is different; everything else in the help center applies as written.
Two business types
- Home Care is non-medical care at home: personal care, companion care, respite, dementia and post-hospital support. The app says client, caregiver, agency and visit.
- Home Health is Medicare-certified skilled care: nursing, therapy, aides and social work. The app says patient, clinician, agency and visit.
You choose during onboarding. Both types are treated as healthcare, so privacy handling and the AI's tone are the same as for a clinic. The words carry everywhere: the calendar, client profiles, the AI's phone and chat answers, notifications and the website.
Services and visit lengths
Your service list starts filled in. Home care agencies get Getting Started (Free In-Home Care Assessment, Care Consultation, Care Plan Review, Family Care Conference), Personal Care (Personal Care Visit and the tasks within it), Companion Care, Specialized Care (dementia and Alzheimer's care, post-hospital recovery, hospice support, respite, an Overnight Care Shift, and a 24-Hour & Live-In Care Consultation) and Skilled Care. Home health agencies get assessments (Start of Care, resumption, recertification, discharge), skilled nursing, therapy, aide and social work visits, and a telehealth check-in.
Edit any of them under Services; see Manage appointment types. The longest single booking is 480 minutes, an eight-hour shift, so overnight care is a shift and 24-hour or live-in care is arranged through the consultation and then scheduled as the shifts that make it up.
Caregivers
Caregivers (clinicians for home health) are FrontDesk's provider records. Add them under Providers, give them availability and locations, and visits are booked with them like any provider; see Add providers and doctors. On the website they appear as Our Caregivers, and the team page explains that they are screened, trained, matched and supervised.
Billing codes
The code library includes an HCPCS pack for your type. Home care gets the codes used when billing Medicaid waiver programs, long-term care insurance or the VA: T1019 and T1020 personal care, S5125 and S5126 attendant care, S5130 and S5131 homemaker, S5135 and S5136 companion, S5150, S5151 and T1005 respite, and G0156 aide, billed per 15 minutes or per day. Home health gets the Medicare visit codes (G0299 and G0300 nursing, G0151 to G0158 therapy and aide, G0155 social work) plus private-duty codes. The seeded fees are placeholders: set your own under Set client fees and rates. A private-pay agency can ignore the codes and bill hourly against its services.
Your website
The website builder uses the agency layout for both types; see Set up your practice website. Beyond the usual pages you get:
- How care begins on the home page: call or request online, a free in-home assessment, meet your matched caregiver, care begins with check-ins.
- Areas We Serve: a page of community chips (it starts with your own city; add the rest), with at-home, in-facility and on-the-go care explained, and a "Live somewhere else nearby?" prompt.
- Caregiver Jobs (Clinical Careers for home health): benefits, how to apply, and an Apply now button that opens the Apply link you set on the Website page.
- Ways to pay instead of an insurance list: private pay with no contract, long-term care insurance, VA Aid & Attendance and Medicaid waiver programs (Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, private insurance and VA benefits for home health).
The main button on the site reads Request care and the booking link Request a free assessment (Request a visit for home health). The Haven and Lantern templates were designed for agencies.
What families and referrers experience
A family that calls reaches an AI that books a free in-home assessment or a visit, knows your service areas and payment options from your knowledge base, and hands off to your team the same way it does for any practice. Referrers reach the same booking and contact pages. The client portal is labelled the Family Portal on agency websites.
